NHRA Video Game: First Impressions, Good and Bad

The first console video game based on NHRA POWERade Drag Racing, NHRA Championship Drag Racing, was release to stores on August 17. The game was developed from the ground up with console gamers in mind. Four previous versions had been developed by other companies but those were made specifically for PC users. This version looks to be a vast improvement over previous games. Now that hardcore gamers can get the look and feel of driving an NHRA vehicle, there is one missing ingredient.

The Mac Tools U.S. Nationals is not only the oldest and most prestigious drag race in the world it is also the most lucrative. Adding to the total overall purse is the Skoal Showdown, a race-within-a-race bonus event that awards $100,000 to the winner. The eight quickest and most consistent Funny Car teams from the last year will compete for the purse and bragging rights on Sunday, Sept. 4. Five of the eight Funny Car drivers were on the phone for a teleconference and talked about the pressures of the event, the upcoming U.S. Nationals and tight points race.

Kenseth Tools to Bristol Domination

Matt Kenseth, driving the No. 17 Ford from Roush Racing, led from the pole position to absolutely dominate the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Kenseth led 415 laps out of the 500-lap race to head off Jeff Burton by .216 second. Fellow Roush driver Greg Biffle finished third, followed across the line by Ricky Rudd and nine-race winner here Rusty Wallace in fifth.
