Elliott Sadler, taking advantage of the partnership horsepower from Roush and Yates’ Ford engine program, won his third pole for the 2005 season at Talladega Friday. Sadler beat out Kevin Harvick’s No. 29 Chevy by 0.061 sec with a lap of 50.597 sec/189.260 mph for the fastest qualifying time with Sadler’s Robert Yates teammate, Dale Jarrett, clocking the third fastest lap, 0.130 sec behind Sadler.

Yes Champ Car fans, the inaugural race from Ansan Korea has been cancelled. Now, instead of having to wait until October 16th for the next race, we will have to wait until October 23 for the Surfer’s Paradise event from Australia.

Rebels Continue Preparations For Break Away

The threatened break away manufactures group (GPMA) has stated that intends to continue it’s preparations to launch a rival series in 2008 after Formula One’s ruling Concorde Agreement expires. The group that comprises the five manufacturers Toyota, Renault, Honda, BMW and Mercedes and the seven teams associated with them released a statement on Wednesday that expressed a willingness to negotiate with the FIA for a solution. However, with the existing uncertainty regarding the matter, they had no choice but to lay the ground work for a new series commencing in 2008.

DAN PASSE: Thank you and good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to a special time of the third week of the 2005 Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup teleconference. Today, we’re joined by Matt Kenseth driver of the No. 17 DeWalt Power Tools Roush Racing Ford and 2003 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Champion. Matt is part of the second chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup, currently in 9th place in the 10 race competition, a mere 124 points behind the leader. Matt has had a great year this year with a exciting pole and win at Bristol, seven top fives and 12 top tens.
Now, Matt, you are now heading into the only restricted play race in the 2005 Chase, and the longest track on the NASCAR Nextel Cup series circuit. You finished a respectable 11th at the track in the Spring. How do you feel about yourself and the team as you head into this race?

Dixon Wins At The Glen; Wheldon Clinches Title

Scott Dixon made a much needed return to victory lane today on a track much like those on which he was raised - the classic permanent road course of Watkins Glen. “Daper” Dan Wheldon showed up this weekend and therefore clinched the 2005 IRL Driver’s Championship.
Bourdais & Tracy Tangle, Bourdais Survives To Win Hurricane Relief 400

On his way to winning the Hurricane Relief 400, Sebastien Bourdais punted series bad boy Paul Tracy hard into the wall as Tracy was slowing to pit. As typical in racing, Seabass said Paul didn’t signal his intention to pit, Paul says he did. Whatever, the end result was another duel between Newman Haas Racing teammates for the win, and the 1-2 finish as Oriol Servia took second. Jimmy Vasser got his best finish of the season in third.

Scott Dixon drove a great race to take the inaugural IRL event at Watkins Glen New York, and Dashing Dan Wheldon finished fifth in his series championship clinching effort. All’s Wheldon had to do was start the race and the title was his.
