Kurt Busch wins Richmond, Ryan Newman in the Chase

Kurt Busch, after following everybody else for the first half of the Chevy Rock & Roll 400, wound up dominating the 400 lap race at Richmond International Raceway. Ryan Newman, finishing 12th in the race, eased into tenth in points and the final spot in the race for NASCAR’s chase through the final ten races of the season.

When I first went to the IRL website, I found a headline saying Ryan Briscoe had won pole for the race tomorrow. But, when I downloaded the qualifying results and looked at the starting grid and they both show him at teh back of the pack with “no time.”

Danica Patrick had the pole locked up, until Ryan Briscoe took the track and bettered her time by more than one mile per hour. The bigger concern is two rookies starting from the front row.
Fireworks Under The Stars At Richmond

The silver and black of McLaren-Mercedes West Racing have the front row for the Belgian GP at Spa tomorrow. Nothing surprising there. What is surprising is the pace of the Renault’s and Jarno Trulli’s Toyota, all within 3-4 tenths of the McLarens.
