FONTANA, Calif., Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005 - Dario Franchitti claimed his first Marlboro Pole Award of the season - and second of his IndyCar Series career - as he claimed the pole position for the Toyota Indy 400 at California Speedway.

Elliott Sadler, hitting the track just before P. J. Jones’ oildown, beat Ryan Newman’s track record with a lap of 27.948 sec/193.216 mph to easily capture the pole for Saturday night’s UAW-GM Quality 500. Newman’s track record lap was set in May this year, at 27.981 sec/192.988 mph.

Yes it was a spin and win for the Ganassi/Sabates owned car driven by Luis Diaz and Scott Pruett. All though slightly less dramatic as Danny Sullivan’s win at Indy it still makes for a great story.
