Mark Martin Leads Roush Podium Sweep

Mark Martin led the most laps in Sunday’s Banquet Foods 400 after fellow Roushketeer and pole winner Matt Kenseth eased off the pace to lead only 71 laps but still finish on the lead lap. Martin led a trio of Roush Fords to a one-two-three sweep. Matt Kenseth took fifth to give Roush four of the top five slots, broken only by Tony Stewart’s fourth-place finish.

And What is Kimi’s thing? Blowing his engine and suffering a 10 spot grid penalty. More bad luck in his qualifying run, in the extreme wet. Starting from 17th. In spite of (or maybe because of?) all of the above, he chases down another victory on the last lap of the race. Simply amazing!

Kenseth Surprises with Kansas Speedway Pole, Record Speed

Matt Kenseth, usually not the strongest qualifier in the field, led the field as the top five qualifiers all broke the old track record of 180.373 mph, set by Jimmie Johnson in 2003. Last week’s pole qualifier Elliott Sadler will start beside Kenseth, just 0.023 sec behind the new track record of 29.858 sec/180.856 mph.

In a press conference held Saturday at Kansas City, Brian France and Mike Helton discussed NASCAR’s future — both in NEXTEL Cup and in the Busch Series. One of the most potentially controversial items was an apparent plan to place a limit on the number of teams a single owner can field. “If I’m Jack Roush, I’ve got five teams in the Chase. Life is great,” said France. “I’ve played by the rules. I don’t want to see one thing change. I don’t want to see the Car of Tomorrow come in. I don’t want to see anything about multicar caps or anything we might think about doing. I don’t want to see anything changed.”

Foyt IV Moving On to NASCAR

A.J. Foyt IV has announced a departure from the A.J. Foyt Enterprises racing team. He will leave the team after the last IRL race in Fonatana California on October 16th.
