I’ve been hearing for years that some kid in the IHRA is going to be the next big thing. I guess that time has come with the announcement that J.R. Todd will drive the Menards/Tuttle Motorsports Top Fueler starting in at the 2006 Winternationals. If he lives up to the hype, Todd might be the NHRA Rookie of the Year before it is all said and done.

NHRA Crew Chief Wayne Dupuy Seriously Injured in Accident

NHRA Crew Chief Wayne Dupuy of Lincolnton, N.C. was severely injured in a single-car accident near his home early Friday morning. Dupuy lost control of his Ford Mustang on Highway 150 and was ejected from the vehicle, breaking his spine, pelvis, and left eye socket. He also suffered multiple abrasions.

Why Danny, why? What would make 2005 IRL series champ and 2005 Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon move to Chip Ganassi racing for the 2006 season? Ok, so an F1 deal didn’t happen, but why TCGR? If we know Chip and Target, the answer is dollars.
Former WRC Champ Richard Burns Dies

Richard Burns, who in 2001 became the only Englishman in history to win the WRC title, died on Friday after a battle with cancer. Burns was 34 years old.

The BBC is reporting today that Bernie Ecclestone and BayernLB, a German bank, have sold their major interest in Formula One racing to CVC Capital Partners. Of course, Bernie will continue in day-to-day control of the FIA’s top events, most likely pocketing the lion’s share of the buyout to add to the already outrageous profits he makes from F1.
