New Year’s Resolutions I’d Like to See

Christmas is over; both Hanukkah and Kwanzaa end on Jan. 1st and feats of strength and the airing of grievances for those that celebrate Festivus have already passed. (That last reference may be over your head if you never watched ‘Seinfeld’.) So now is the time to make those New Year’s resolutions before midnight on Saturday. Forget about losing weight, taking the stairs instead of the elevator or calling your mother more often. Here is a list of New Year’s resolutions I would like to see those involved in the NHRA adopt for 2006.

Scott Kalitta wins Down Under in Sydney’s Boxing Day Event

In the quickest side-by-side drag race in Australian history, Scott Kalitta grabbed the title trophy and bragging rights over his Kalitta Motorsports teammate and native Australian Dave Grubnic in the final round of Top Fuel eliminations. The special event was dubbed the USA vs. Australia Boxing Day Top Fuel Nitro Thunder at Western Sydney International Dragway in Sydney, Australia. The race was held Tuesday Dec. 27, 2005

Ron Capps joined Don Schumacher Racing to drive the Brut-sponsored Dodge Stratus R/T Funny Car in 2005 and found himself embroiled in the most exciting and closest battle for a Funny Car championship in NHRA history. The chase came down to the final race of the 23-event series among Capps, Capps’ teammate Gary Scelzi and John Force. Following an emotional, gut-wrenching last third of the year and a somewhat anti-climactic final race, in which all three lost in the second round, Capps emerged the runner-up, just eight points behind Scelzi and 24 points ahead of 13-time champion Force. In this interview Capps recaps the season that was, discusses his first year driving for Don Schumacher and talks about his plans for the holiday break.
