This may be A1 Grand Prix’s biggest weekend since it’s September inaugural event at Silverstone in Great Britain. It was a short 18 months ago A1GP founder Sheikh Maktoum announced the formation of the A1 Grand Prix of Nations at the opening of this weeks venue the Dubai Autodrome.

New TV Deal for NASCAR could be good for NHRA

The folks in Daytona have kissed and made up with the folks in Bristol, Conn. agreeing to an eight-year deal to put NASCAR on ABC and ESPN starting in 2007. The NHRA recently extended its deal with ESPN through 2011 and sharing the network with NASCAR might even help elevate drag racing higher than where it currently resides in the auto racing pecking order.
NASCAR’s New Eight-Year TV Contract Inked

After months of speculation, NASCAR finally announced the new contract under which races will be broadcast. Fox (and their arm Speed) and Turner’s TNT will return while ABC and ESPN will replace NBC after next year to begin a new eight-year contract. Fox will gain the Daytona 500, followed by the subsequent 12 races. TNT will air the next six races and the final 17 races in the calendar will be divided between ABC and ESPN, with ABC getting the final ten races in the ‘Chase.’ Following is the entire text of the NASCAR announcement:

Burkart Back to “Wearing a Bow Tie’ in 2006

Phil Burkart, the driver of the blue Checker, Schuck’s, Kragen Funny Car, will again face the competition behind the wheel of a CSK Monte Carlo in 2006, returning to the body style in which he won two races and finished in the top ten in 2004. Burkart and his teammate, Del Worsham, both began utilizing the Monte Carlo immediately after the introduction of the Chevrolet model in 2004, though Burkart’s blue CSK car was subsequently outfitted with a Toyota body for most of the 2005 season.
