Thanks to the teams, here are collected notes and quotes from the Auto Club 500 at California Speedway. Matt Kenseth won the race over Jimmie Johnson, giving team owner Jack Roush a ‘hat trick’ of all three races at the track this weekend. Mark Martin won the Craftsman Truck Series race Friday evening, Greg Biffle won the Busch Series race Saturday and Kenseth won the NEXTEL Cup event.

CHANDLER, Ariz. — Warren Johnson, the most prolific Pro Stock racer in NHRA history, pushed his career victory total to 96 Sunday by winning the 22nd annual Checker Schuck’s Kragen NHRA Nationals presented by Castrol at Firebird International Raceway.
Matt Kenseth Hands Roush a California Sweep

Matt Kenseth’s win gave Jack Roush a sweep of the entire weekend at California Speedway, with Kenseth pulling the No. 17 Roush Ford Fusion to the lead late in the race and edging out Daytona 500 winner Jimmie Johnson by 0.323 second. Kenseth’s fellow Roush drivers Mark Martin and Greg Biffle won the Craftsman Truck Series race and the Busch Series race earlier in the weekend. Third place finisher Carl Edwards has now finished sixth, fifth, fourth and third at California, improving his position one spot every race he has run here. Kasey Kahne took fourth, followed by Jeff Burton in fifth. Greg Biffle dominated the early running but had an engine failure after heading the field for 168 laps. Biffle and reigning champion Tony Stewart were the only drivers who failed to finish the race, ending their weekends in the garage area. Johnson leaves California with the point lead over Mears and Kenseth, with Kasey Kahne fourth and Dale Earnhardt Jr fifth in points after a tenth-place finish.

Kurt Busch on California Pole

Kurt Busch, going on the track 37th out of the 50 cars entered, won the pole for Sunday’s Auto Club 500 in only his second start with his new team at Penske Racing South in the No. 2 Dodge. Starting outside of Busch on the front row will be his teammate from last year, Greg Biffle, in the No. 16 Ford out of Roush Racing. Busch’s time of 38.485 sec/187.086 mph beat out Biffle by .186 second.
