Rookie Hamlin Earns Shootout Crown

Rookie of the Year candidate Denny Hamlin, driving the No. 11 car for Joe Gibbs Racing, earned the respect and envy of 20 of his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup competitors in the rain-delayed 2006 Budweiser Shootout by beating them all to the finish. Hamlin used a push from teammate Tony Stewart to move ahead to a car-length lead at the finish of the special race for pole winners and previous winners of the event.
Revised Schedule for Sunday at Daytona

Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout has been postponed due to rain. The season’s first special event with 17 Bud Pole Award winners from the 2005 Nextel Cup season and four former Shootout winners, will now be held Sunday afternoon. The revised schedule for Sunday is as follows:

Tony Stewart Tops Second Practice

Tony Stewart, still sore from his USAC Midget flips in the Chili Bowl, edged out Carl Edwards for top speed in the second practice for Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout. Stewart lapped the 2.5-mile Daytona Speedway in 46.416 sec at a lap speed of 193.899 mph, just .003 sec quicker than Edwards’ Ford.
