Weather Wins Atlanta - Golden Corral 500 Slated for Monday

NASCAR’s 2006 season got interrupted Sunday when Mother Nature decided that she’d take over the schedule, putting a continuous rain on Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR and track officials rescheduled the race for an 11:00 AM Monday green flag. The race will be broadcast on the FX cable network with selected Fox stations also joining the broadcast.

Sebring, Fla. - Audi Sport North America made history Saturday as the diesel-powered Audi R10 TDI of Tom Kristensen, Allan McNish and Rinaldo Capello won the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The new prototype is the first diesel car in the world to win a major sports car race.

Kahne Breaks Newman’s Atlanta Pole Streak

Kasey Kahne, driving the No. 9 Dodge out of Ray Evernham’s stable, broke Ryan Newman’s streak of consecutive poles in Atlanta Motor Speedway races at six. Newman has copped pole position for the last six races at the Hampton, GA track. The last driver other than Kahne today and Newman the last three years was Bill Elliott, also in a No. 9 Dodge out of Evernham’s shops. Kahne’s time was a hair-thin 0.002 second quicker than Newman’s.

Gainsville Getting the Treatment

NHRA announced Tuesday that Gainesville Raceway will undergo a major redevelopment including luxury VIP box suites atop the South Side Grandstands on the pit side. Also part of the facelift at one of the most well-known drag racing facilities in the country will include construction of a permanent Top Eliminator Club in its current location and a complete overhaul of the current race control tower and suites.
