Kasey Kahne got a head start on his birthday celebration by winning the Samsung/Radio Shack 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Early in the race, Kurt Busch and Greg Biffle had an encounter that sent Biffle slamming into the wall. Busch explained that: “I was a lapped car trying to get out of the way. He had trouble passing the 21, and he checked up down the straightaway. I tried not to get into him. Birthday Boy Kahne Celebrates at Texas

Celebrating his 26th birthday a day early, Kasey Kahne continued the streak of no repeat winners at Texas Motor Speedway, for his second win of the 2006 season and his second from pole for the year. He also became the first driver in the track’s history to win from a front row starting position. Matt Kenseth finished second, holding off Tony Stewart, who finished third. Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick finished the top five.

Kasey Kahne, running late in the qualifying session and taking advantage of cooling conditions, won his second pole of the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season for Sunday’s Samsung/Radio Shack 500 and will lead the field to the green flag. Kahne’s lap of 28.374 seconds / 190.315 mph beat out J. J. Yeley’s time of 28.515 seconds / 189.374 mph. Second place in points, Mark Martin, will start third Sunday, flanked by Jeff Green in the No. 66 Haas CNC Racing Chevrolet.

If you have been watching the NHRA POWERade broadcasts on ESPN2 lately you may have noticed something, or should I say someone, is missing. It’s play-by-play announcer Marty Reid. Reid apparently has been plucked from the NHRA shows on ESPN2 and has been put on the IRL broadcasts that appear on ABC and ESPN. Reid’s replacement has been Paul Page and with all due respect to Mr. Page, the NHRA got the short end of the stick on this trade.
