The International Hot Rod Association makes its much anticipated first trip across the Canadian border this coming weekend for the 7th annual MOPAR Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol at the Grand Bend Motorplex located in Grand Bend, Ontario. This has become one of the most successful stops on the IHRA national event tour with nearly record attendance numbers each season. This event is the third stop in the eMax drag racing series and is a home coming for many of the IHRA’s professional class stars.

#1 Qualifiers Still “Jinxed” at Heartland Park, Topeka:

Robert Hight and Melanie Troxel both said this week that they would like to prove that holding the low qualifier position going into the Sunday racing finals can translate into a win.

That translation doesn’t seem to be happening for nitro drivers much this season, and in the slightly superstitious NHRA world of “no peanuts or green in the pits,” jinx perception sometimes becomes reality.

Hot Drivers in Topeka: Enders, Hight and Troxel Low Qualifiers

With track temperatures moving past 120 degrees, the Summer Nationals in Topeka, Kansas are living up to their season.

The heat must have fired up Erica Enders to overcome her recent red-light losses; she took the Pro Stock low qualifier position with a Friday night pass of 6.785 seconds at 203.06 mph in her Slammers Ultimate Milk Chevy Cobalt.

She is the first female Pro Stock driver to take the number one qualifying position at an NHRA national event. It would seem almost inevitable that she’d eventually snag the spot since she’s qualified in the top five at seven of eight races so far this year.
