You’ve probably seen trailers for it, but Disney/Pixar’s film “Cars” may be one of the best racing movies made. If you like drama, action, humor, crashes and plot twists, you’ll probably like this G-rated computer animation film.

Let me get a wee bit out of my normal NHRA lane here and mention Richard Petty’s comment during an Associated Press interview published yesterday; “I just don’t think it’s a sport for women,” Petty said. “And so far, it’s proved out. It’s really not. It’s good for them to come in. It gives us a lot of publicity, it gives them publicity.”
“But as far as being a real true racer, making a living out of it, it’s kind of tough.”

Scott Riggs Heads Dodge Front Row for 600

Scott Riggs put the first of two Ray Evernham-fielded Dodges on the front row for Sunday evening’s Coca Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Riggs’ time of 28.744 sec/187.865 mph beat out teammate Jeremy Mayfield in the No. 19 Dodge by 0.088 sec. Officially, Riggs’ car is owned by Jim Rocco and entered by Valvoline Evernham Racing but it comes from the same shops as Mayfield’s and Kasey Kahne’s cars. Starting just behind Riggs will be the dominant car here in recent years, Jimmie Johnson’s No. 48 Chevy. Flanking Johnson is rookie contender J. J. Yeley in the No. 18 Chevy.
