Jimmie Johnson dominated the day, capturing his first race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and his fourth of the 2006 season after he captured the season-opening Daytona 500, followed by races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway.

Jeff Burton added another pole to his record for the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season, bumping fellow Richard Childress Racing driver Clint Bowyer for pole at the Allstate 400 by only two thousandths of a second. Burton’s lap was 49.240 sec / 182.778 mph, against Bowyer’s 49.242 / 182.771 lap. Kurt Busch will start the No. 2 Dodge third, flanked by Kasey Kahne in the No. 9 Dodge.

Da Matta Badly Injured In Testing Crash

2002 Champ Car World Series Champion Cristiano da Matta remained in intensive care Thursday after surgery to remove a ruptured blood vessel in his head. The injury was sustained in a testing crash at Elkhart Lake in Wisconsin. The wreck was caused when da Matta struck, of all things, a deer while at speed.
