Dover Post Qualifying Notes & Quotes

Jeff Gordon won his 55th career pole Friday at Dover International Speedway. The Chevy pilot beat out earlier qualifier Scott Riggs by just fifteen thousandths of a second and Matt Kenseth by an additional eleven thousandths. J.J. Yeley crashed on his qualifying lap and will start next to last in the field, thanks to a provisional starting position. The entire field of qualifying times was separated by only 0.712 second. Kenny Wallace, Chad Blount, Morgan Shepherd and Donnie Neuenberger all failed to qualify and had to return home for the weekend.
Dover 400 Qualifying Report

Qualifying for Dover International Speedway’s Dover 400 showed why qualifying here is as important as at any track. The pit road here is as crowded as any, with the slowest qualifiers having to share a pit stall on race day until some cars drop out of the race. This makes a top grid spot and pit choice here potentially vital to success on race day.
Jeff Gordon, going out late in the session, grabbed his 55th career pole, edging out Scott Riggs for the inside front row slot by only .015 second and .102 mph.

Back when there were just a handful of races each NHRA national event season, Billy Meyer battled other Funny Car drivers for each and every round win. He now owns the Texas Motorplex, the site of this weekend’s 21st annual O’Reilly Fall NHRA Nationals. Meyer was named the NHRA’s No. 47 driver of all time during the NHRA’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2001. Not only sucessful in racing, Meyer has experienced success away from the track. In this Q&A session Meyer talks about what his dad contributed to his life, what his weakness is as a track owner and what he considers to be his best racing statistic.
