NHRA and the NFL - A Great Combination
September 14, 2006
You have heard the saying, ‘I went to a boxing match and a hockey game broke out’. Along those same lines, one could say, ‘I went to a professional football game and a drag race broke out’. The announcement that NFL Runningback Duce Staley will be fielding a two-car Pro Stock team in 2007 is music to the ears of drag racing fans. Then again, football and the NHRA have gone together hand in hand for a number years.

Q&A with Tony Schumacher and Angelle Sampey
September 13, 2006
U.S. Army teammates Tony Schumacher and Angelle Sampey have had great success at Maple Grove Raceway. Schumacher has won the upcoming Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals the past three years. Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Sampey has won the event six times to tie her with Funny Car driver John Force with the most wins at the track. Schumacher and Sampey answered some questions about their success at Maple Grove Raceway, the points championship, and their relationship with their sponsor, the U.S. Army.
Lastest News Bits - Defeating The Naysayers
September 13, 2006
New teams are testing for 2007, CCWS offers a lease program for the Panoz DP01 chassis, and the 2007 silly-season is kicking into high gear. All of this good news for Champ Car sure is ruffling the feathers of the naysayers of message boards around the net.
Bazemore Out, Beckman In Matco Tools Funny Car
September 12, 2006
Upon hearing the news that Matco Tools was moving their primary sponsorship away from Don Schumacher Racing and essentially leaving Whit Bazemore without a sponsor in 2007, I was quite surprised. To do it during the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals smacked of guerilla marketing and trying to steal the thunder of the primary race sponsor. To hear that Bazemore would possibly sit out the remainder of the 2006 season because of the news was even more shocking. But with the news of Jack Beckman being named the replacement driver for Bazemore’s ride brought it all together and now it all makes sense.
NASCAR Moves North of the Border
September 12, 2006
This morning, as earlier predicted, NASCAR announced a move into Canadian motorsports with the formation of the “NASCAR Canadian Tire Series” stock car racing series. Backed by a multi-year title sponsorshiip from Canadia Tire, the official press release, cited here, makes only a brief note about CASCAR, save that “the series will provide new racing opportunities for teams and drivers from the former CASCAR series.” Schedules and point funds will be announced later.
Another Brick in NASCAR’s Edifice?
September 12, 2006
Rumors for the last two years and an article in today’s Toronto Sun point toward the purchase of Canada’s stock car racing series, CASCAR, by NASCAR (or the France family, which amounts to the same thing.)
An announcement is planned at downtown Toronto’s Dundas Square for 11:00 this morning, with press releases being posted immediately after that.
We’ll be back with details and confirmation as soon as we receive a copy of the press releases.
Italian Grand Prix: Grand Opera By Another Name
September 11, 2006
And we thought the goings on at the Turkish GP were high drama? Schumi wins and quits; Alonso takes a hosing by the stupids, er, stewards, fights to third place and blows up; and Kimi is named as Scumi’s heir apparent. If we could put music to this we’d have a hit!
