Riggs’ Dodge Leads the Way at Lowe’s
October 12, 2006
Scott Riggs headed a Dodge clean sweep of the top five spots for Saturday evening’s Bank of America 500 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Joining Riggs on the front row will be Kasey Kahne. Row two is comprised of Kurt Busch and Casey Mears, while Elliott Sadler starts fifth. Kevin Harvick is the first non-Dodge starter, followed by fellow RCR Chevy Jeff Burton. Mark Martin is the only Ford in the top ten, starting eighth, while Clint Bowyer and Reed Sorenson fill out the top ten. In post-qualifying technical inspection, NASCAR discovered that the right-rear shock absorber on Kurt Busch’s No. 2 Dodge was not in compliance with regulations. This violation will drop the third-place qualifier to the rear of the field, as his qualifying time was disallowed.

Vickers Taps Win at Talladega
October 8, 2006
Vickers grabbed his career first win after contact with Jimmie Johnson’s car on a last lap slingshot pass attempt spun Johnson into Dale Earnhardt Jr, taking out the top two cars. Johnson and Vickers are teamates at Hendrick Motorsports but Vickers is leaving the team at the end of the current season to drive for the Red Bull team of Toyotas. Earnhardt continued his family tradition of dominance at Talladega, leading 37 laps, ten more than Jeff Gordon, who got taken out of contention in the race’s first “big one” crash. Jeff Burton retains his point lead in the ‘Chase’ but only by six points after finishing 27th, two laps down.
Suzuka Qualy’s: Ferrari, Toyota, Renault, Honda
October 7, 2006
Stranger sights have been observed in F1, I’m sure. But the qualy results from Suzuka which have the teams side by side through the first eight cars is bizarre. And the most bizarre may be the Toyota’s lining up 3rd and 4th.
