Mark Martin Enlists in the MB2 Army For 2007
October 6, 2006
Mark Martin announced Friday morning at Talladega that he will be leaving Roush Racing’s Fords after 19 years with the team. Martin will be heading up from Roush Racing’s Concord, NC headquarters to MB2’s shops in Mooresville, NC for the 2007 season. “Joining MB2 is a win-win situation for me,” said Martin, a native of Batesville, Ark. “I not only get to drive, but I also get to teach and I love doing both. I have had a great 19 years with Roush Racing. It was a difficult decision to move on. But right now I welcome the opportunity to drive the U.S. Army car and represent our brave soldiers who are fighting the global war on terrorism.”

Banquet 400 Notes & Quotes
October 1, 2006
Here, thanks to the usual team and manufacturer sources, are the collected notes and quotes from Sunday’s Banquet 400. Tony Stewart coasted the last half lap out of gas to win the race. “We had nothing to lose. When you’re not in the Chase and you know those guys can’t take that chance, it opens the door for us to take that chance and gives us that shot to do that today,” said Stewart after the race. “When he [Zipadelli] told me we were a half-lap shy, I thought surely I can save half-a-lap of fuel, which I never have in the past and I don’t know what made me think today I could do it, but I even missed his half-a-lap.”

OK, Greg Anderson in Pro Stock has been in the winner’s circle a few times before, but there were a couple of other faces there today that we don’t see as often.
Smoke Coasts to Kansas Win
October 1, 2006
Current NASCAR NEXTEL Cup champion Tony Stewart coasted nearly the entire final lap of the Banquet 400 at Kansas Speedway to win a race punctuated by spins and ending as a mileage contest. Dominant Jimmie Johnson miscued when he thought a caution would fly late in the race and stayed out, pitting on the next lap when Kasey Kahne spun entering the pits. He then got penalized for speeding on pit road, dropping to 14th. Casey Mears took second and Mark Martin third, the best-placing Chase contenderat the finish.
