Soldiers Overseas are Racing Fans Too
November 30, 2006
Depending on which side of the political fence one might reside greatly affects their perception of the current war in Iraq. No matter if you support the war effort or completely disagree with the decision to be there, one common theme seems to permeate the American public. The vast majority of Americans still support the men and women in our nation’s military who are abroad and oftentimes in harm’s way. In the spirit of the upcoming holidays you can say thank you to those very men and women fighting for us with a simple gesture.

Looking Forward
November 26, 2006
After what will go down as one of the most historic seasons in the history of our sport it is now time for everyone to start gearing up for next year. The hangover from that wonderful weekend at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona is over. The IHRA hosted its last event over a month ago and the Universal Technical Institute World Finals in Rockingham, NC ended what was a landmark season for the IHRA and its eMax drag racing series.
Hamilton Grabs The Gold Ring.
November 24, 2006
In formula one the brass ring is a racing seat in a top team. On the merry-go-round of drivers grasping for the elusive prize, Lewis Hamilton has latched onto a golden hoop as opposed to a brass ring.
Johnson Cups, Montoya Flames, Biffle at Home at Homestead
November 19, 2006
The 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup champion was finally crowned at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Jimmie Johnson winning the championship by 56 points over Matt Kenseth, who finished sixth in the race.
When all was said and done, Greg Biffle won the race, leading 47 of the 268 laps, Martin Truex finished second, Denny Hamlin third, pole winner Kasey Kahne fourth and Kevin Harvick fifth. But the really big celebration was by the ninth-place finishing team — Jimmie Johnson’s Chad Knaus-led No. 48 Chevy team out of the Hendrick Motorsports stables. The car is co-owned by Rick Hendrick and Jeff Gordon.
Robby Gordon=Versatility
November 17, 2006
While it’s a mild stretch, I’m going to include the notes from Chevrolet following Robby Gordon’s win at the SCORE/Tecate Baja 1000 today. Gordon won the race overall this year, by over 45 minutes clear of the second place Trophy Truck. After driving the first 750 miles (!) of the event, he turned the wheel over to Andy McMillin for the final couple of hundred miles. Past conversations with various people better-sited than this writer have had them state that Gordon has the best eye-hand coordination of anyone in racing today. Things we’ve witnessed would not disagree with this, though we still feel that Tony Stewart is likely the most versatile overall racer in American racing. The only thing he hasn’t won is drag racing, and he hasn’t tried that to our knowledge.
Here, thanks to Chevrolet, is the transcript of Gordon’s comments immediately after the Baja.
Kahne On Pole, Montoya Makes the Field
November 17, 2006
Kasey Kahne took pole for the Ford 400, final race in the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season, by edging out fellow Ray Evernham Dodge driver Scott Riggs by .007 second. The pole gave Kahne the Bud Pole Award for the season, beating out Kurt Busch for the bonus.
Juan Pablo Montoya made the field in his first attempt at qualifying for a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race, putting the No. 30 Dodge in the field at a time of 30.755/175.581. Team principle Chip Ganassi decided to keep Casey Mears in the No. 42 Dodge and let Montoya take his chances in qualifying a car that was not ‘locked in’ the field with a top 35 position in points. Montoya’s team was sufficient to earn him the 29th starting spot for the Indy 500 winner’s first ‘Cup’ race.
NASCAR Chase Contenders Press Conference
November 16, 2006
NASCAR brought together Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin and Dale Earnhardt Jr, the final five contenders for this year’s NEXTEL Cup, for a press conference in Miami Thursday. Here, thanks to NASCAR, is the transcript of what appears to have been an entertaining session:
Mosley: More F-1 Races in North America
November 16, 2006
Never take anything said by FIA President Max Mosley at face value, but the focus on North America seems to be important to member constituents like BMW when it comes to adding Grands Prix in the U.S.
Montoya An Official Nextel Cup Entry
November 15, 2006
Chip Ganassi has confirmed Juan Pablo Montoya will attempt to qualify for his first Nextel Cup race on Friday at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.
It will be an interesting test of Montoya’s ability. No less than 12 drivers will fail to make the field of 55 entered. That includes a long list of veterans in good equipment provided by established car owners.
