Mickey Thompson’s Ex-Partner Convicted

Mickey Thompson, dragster, Land Speed Record driver, stadium racing promoter, race car builder and Motorsports Hall of Fame member, was murdered in the driveway of his home in 1988. For years, the cold case dragged on while Thompson’s family pressured Pasadena, California police to solve the case, charging that Thompson’s estranged business partner, Michael Goodwin, hired hit men.

Thompson and his wife were shot to death in the driveway of their gated home in the hills above Pasadena after a lawsuit between the onetime partners led to a $700,000 judgement in favor of Thompson.

Goodwin was found guilty of the murders, with several “special circumstance” allegations after a long trial following his arrest in 2001 after he returned to the United States after a long absence.
