On Tuesday, April 10, 2007, the national motorsports media had the opportunity to speak with John Force and members of his staff for the first time since the tragic testing accident that resulted in the loss of Eric Medlen’s life. Force was joined on the conference call by crew chief John Medlen; driver Ashley Force; John Melvin, a biomedical research scientist and auto racing safety consultant who has been retained by John Force Racing and Graham Light, senior vice president of racing operations for the NHRA. The following is a transcript of the conversation from Tuesday that discusses the testing accident, future plans for John Force Racing and changes that will be made to the John Force Racing Funny Cars.

A large, late surge of entries to the 2007 Indianapolis 500 created an unexpected swell in the number of competitors seeking to qualify for the Memorial Day classic. Among the IndyCar regulars are several smaller and unheralded teams taking a stab at putting a car in the thirty-three car field, as well as a couple of Indy Pro Series regulars who are set to take the plunge.

Twenty-five drivers representing twenty teams have filed official entries for the 2007 Indianapolis 500 race on Memorial Day. Among them are three women, who will bid to make up a trio of female drivers unprecedented in the Indy 500’s ninety-one year history. Also returning is Michael Andretti, still looking for his first win at the Brickyard after a career of gallant, but as yet not-fully-rewarded, efforts at the Speedway.
