Earlier in the week I headlined a posting with “What Now, Fernando?” in reference to Alonso’s future in F1 next year. If the new allegations against McLaren prove true, Ron will be asking himself that same question and Alonso’s future will be predetermined for him.
Rumor: 24th Race Reserved for Bruton Smith

The rumors keep swirling regarding the location of the yet to be announced ‘mystery’ race that was added to the NHRA’s 2008 season schedule. We have heard Miami, Detroit, a second race in Gainesville and even Australia. Now, I am hearing that the NHRA has promised the race to Bruton Smith, owner and CEO of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI) to bring drag racing to NASCAR country.

The NHRA announced their racing schedule for the 2008 POWERade season and along with it came a little surprise. The NHRA has added a 24th race to the schedule but the exact location has yet to be revealed. As you might expect, the NHRA’s rumor mill was churning faster than the blower belt on a Funny Car.

What future team options are left for Fernando Alonso in 2008? After bawling incessantly for weeks over his alleged mistreatment at McLaren, he’s made it perfectly clear he would like to consider other choices in 2008. Could one of those be retirement?
