The Indy Car Series launches their 2009 campaign by returning for the fifth annual Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The 2009 season brings a number of driver changes, but also will showcase the return of Indy 500 champ, Dario Franchitti. The teams will go head to head on the streets of St. Petersburg, a challenging and narrow 1.8 mile circut of concrete canyons.

Will Power shows speed at Barber Indy Car test

The Indy Car Series held their final open test of the 2009 pre-season at Barber Motorsports Park on Sunday and Mondy, and Will Power showed the way with the top lap speed of 119.213 mph. Power, Penske’s latests driver hire in Indy Car, is piloting the car normally driven by Helio Castroneves who is caught up in court proceedings over charges of tax evasion.

Sebring surprise! Dixon puts Acura on pole

The boys at Acura have done it again. In their very first race in the ALMS LMP1 class, an Acura will start from pole. Scott Dixon put together an incredible lap in the De Ferran Motorsports cura ARX 02a, clocking in at 1:45.278, just edging out Audi’s Tom Kristensen.

Acura took a technical leap in producing the ARX 02a, and actually designed the car to use four identically sized tires. It looks little like a hybrid between a race car and an SUV, but on the track it’s all race car. The car has an aggressive, chunky look that is pretty hot, and you simply cannot argue with its performance.
