A1 Team USA’s Jonathan Summerton turned in an eighth-place finish but was penalized post-race by the stewards for making a stop outside the pitstop window. The 70-second penalty moved him out of the top ten and points, and reclassified fourteenth–a frustrating turn of events for the Kissimmee, Florida native who ran in the top ten throughout the event.
A1 Team New Zealand’s Jonny Reid piloted ‘Black Beauty’ to the win in the earlier Sprint Race at Taupo. With the result New Zealand moved into the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport points lead with 82 points; followed by Switzerland and France tied for second with 80 points apiece.
