New Zealand’s Jonny Reid Collects Feature Race Win in China
A1 Team New Zealand won the race, but lost the series on Sunday at A1GP Shanghai, China. Nico Hulkenberg’s third-place finish in the Feature race gave Germany an insurmountable advantage in points toward the World Cup of Motorsport. Britain continued its podium success with two more fantastic finishes in A1GP competition by Robbie Kerr.
Jonny Reid executed a daring pass on the fifteenth lap in the first turn of Shanghai International Circuit to move past Robbie Kerr in the race’s decisive moment. Reid then pressed his pace and won easily, taking his third race victory of the year.

Kerr and Reid traded places earlier in the Sprint race, with the Brit winning and the Kiwi second. Hulkenberg’s third place in both Sprint and Feature gave his team a twelve-point boost over the top in the race for the 2006-2007 series championship.
A1 Team USA’s day ended early when Jonathan Summerton’s spin on lap twenty-seven sent him to the garages. Summerton finished fifth in the Sprint race Sunday morning.
IndyCar’s Vitor Meira continued snakebit throughout the day, suffering a first-lap accident in the Feature that damaged his suspesion. He continued in the race but was not a force after the collision.
The World Cup of Motorsports season comes to an end with the final round of racing in two weeks (April 29th) at Brands Hatch, England. The Closing Ceremonies of the 2006-2007 season will include the trophy presentation to Germany and Hulkenberg for their impressive season-long performance.
The race will be televised in the United States and Canada on Wednesday April 18th at 2PM–two hours earlier than in weeks past.
