A number of news outlets today ran an article about Chip Ganassi’s domination of the Indy Car and Grand Am series. The headline: “Ganassi teams dominating 2 open-wheel series“. Wow, since when was Grand Am considered “open wheel racing”? The last time I was blinded by the fugliness[sic] of Grand Am prototypes, they still had “fenders”. Read more

The number 7 seams to be rather popular not only in autoracing but through out the world of sports. Take the seven time Cy Young winner Roger Clemens, and the seven time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, seven time Formula one champion Michael Schumacher, seven time Daytona 500 winner Richard Petty (who was the grand marshal for this years race). This weekend two more were added to the list of sevens. Tiger Woods won his seventh straight PGA tournament and more importantly Scott Pruett has now won seven class victories at Daytona. This broke the tie he held with Hurley Haywood and Peter Gregg. That’s pretty elite company in the world of sport car racing.
