Written by Josh Katinger · March 11, 2004
Former Champ Car Champion (1996) Jimmy Vasser announced on Monday his new role as car owner/driver at the newly named PKV Racing Team. At age 38 Vasser is the second oldest driver in Champ Car to the only other driver/owner in the series, Adrian Fernandez. Vasser has amassed 10 career wins, 8 poles in 186 starts. His latest win came at the end of the 2002 season when he beat out Michael Andretti on a last lap shootout to win the California 500.

You know I like Jimmy, and I don’t mean to pick over word choices, But 10 wins over 10+ seasons is hardly “amassing”. I hope he has greater success as a team owner then he did as a driver.
Jimmy had some good seasons (championship) with Ganassi, but once Alex showed up he started to take a back seat to him. That trend continued to the point where he wasn’t EVER winning when Juan Pablo was winning EVERYTHING. I don’t know why that happened, but he has shown that he can win when he’s in the right situation. Maybe his car was given a back seat to Zanardi and Montoya at Ganassi?
