The Rumors Were True!
Written by Josh Katinger · September 14, 2004
It now appears that Renault has confirmed that 1997 F1 Champion Jacques Villeneuve will be testing with the team at Silverstone this week. Renault had previously denied that they were looking at Villeneuve, but what does that matter in the world of F1?

BBC: Renault eye Villeneuve
It is assumed that if the test goes well Jacques will replace Jarno Trulli in the final three races of the 2004 season after Renault parted company with Jarno today. He was going to leave the team at the end of the season.

Got something to say?

What can I say, except: It’s about time he got a chance to prove he’s not dead.
What will BAR, Sauber and even Renault do if JV actually wins a race or two?
And now JV signs with Sauber.
There’s an odd story at pitpass.com today. Over the last couple of days, Renault has denied the JV story. Nobody believed them, except pitpass. Pitpass went as far as to say the rumors were NOT true (as opposed to taking a neutral stance). After the JV story was confirmed, pitpass felt let down by Renault, they’re upset with the press and simply put - they’re ticked off. They have quite a lengthy article about it today.
The BBC & crash.net web-sites indicate that Jacques will be racing with Sauber for the next 2 years !!!
Yes - all websites seem to reporting a 2-year deal between JV and Sauber. I’m anxious to know what happened with BAR. Did they say NO? Or did JV decide not to wait and gamble? BAR clearly has the better car, despite what Button claims (that BAR have fallen off - it didn’t appear so last weekend when Button lead a good portion of the race). Nevertheless,
JV will now use Sauber to re-prove his talents and hope for a top drive the following year (he’s certain to have an “out-clause”).
I can only find one site that’s actually following the laps and times of Villeneuve today at Silverstone.
The site is F1Racing.net
(I don’t know if regular HTML language works here, but I’ll try)
