NASCAR Hall of Fame Short List Announced
Written by John Davison · January 5, 2006
Well, count me among those with egg on our faces! NASCAR announced Thursday that of the cities placing bids to become host of the NASCAR Hall of Fame museum, Atlanta, Charlotte and Daytona Beach are still in the running.
The surprise is that Charlotte is on the short list and Kansas City isn’t. Many commentators have espoused the view that Kansas City was a shoo-in, having an International Speedway Corp. (spelled NASCAR and the France family) track, in the center of the country and not being a place associated with Bruton Smith’s Speedway Motprsports Corp.
So, count me, among many others, as being very wrong on this. While my personal opinion is that either Charlotte or Daytona are the best choices, and I’d prefer Charlotte, for purely personal reasons.

I’ve said all along Charlotte would end up with the winning bid. The State Gov. passed a funding bill early in the process plus the area is “more NASCAR” than Daytona in many ways.
The added attraction of having so many race shops close by gives tourists to the HoF the chance to visit them during the same trip.
Having said that, the last couple months I started to doubt my prediction and nearly started to buy into the KC “as the leading bid” spin.
