AutoWeek’s J.P. Vettraino has a point…the CART season hasn’t been as bad as we thought it would be. After all, it is amazing that there has been a season at all given the situation the series has found itself in for the past two to three years. But there is still plenty of time for CART to shoot itself in the foot…

From cart-racing.com: According to Autosport former Champ Car star Alex Zanardi could return to competitive racing later this season in the final round of the European Touring Car Championship.
Using an adapted BMW 320i, the Italian completed a successful test on Tuesday in Italy and will complete another test at the end of August to determine whether he will race at the season finale on October 19th at Monza…

This season has seen more scray fires than any I can remember. Ryan Newman in Michigan, Jarrett and Schrader at Pocono, and now Bobby Labonte in Chicago. All of these, especially Labonte and Newman, were scary to watch. Seeing fire burning in the cockpit of the car while the driver is still in there is concerning.
There are a few suggestions being put forth by Ryan Newman and others. Personally I’m going to listen to Newman since he not only drives these cars, but also has a mechanical engineering degree from Purdue!

SpeedwayMedia.com is reporting that Jerry Nadeau will be at NHIS for the New England 300 this weekend. Of course he won’t be racing, but it will be great to see our Connecticut boy back in the garage area after his life threatening wreck at Richmond.
No. 29 fined, loses points

SpeedwayMedia.com is reporting that the Richard Childress #29 car of Kevin Harvick was fined and had points taken away. Crew chief Todd Berrierwas been fined $25,000 for an “unapproved travel limiting device” on the rear suspension. Additionally, NASCAR has taken 25 driver points from Harvick, and 25 team owner points from Childress.
