Scary perspective
July 15, 2003
If half of what Kyle Taylor writes about in the attached article comes to pass I think NASCAR will loose many a fan. If being a fan means constant bombardment by Nextel and its cabal of business partners with a mind numbing TV onslaught of advertising, they will definitely loose viewership.
India to receive F1 date?
July 15, 2003
According to El Supremo Bernie Eccelstone, It’s only a matter of time before India has an F1 race of it’s own. Personally I think Bernie hates tire engineers and is trying to develop tracks with as extreme driving conditions as possible.
Talk abourt trying to reduce costs for the teams? I don’t think so!

Tragedy on the Oregon Trail
July 14, 2003
No, we are not talking about a western movie, but the sad loss of driver and navigator at a rally race in Oregon. As fans of motorsports on all levels we sometimes loose sight of the constant presence of danger and tragedy. Our sometimes flip comments about Jacque Villeneuve, Eddie Cheever, or Eddie Irvine denigrates their courage and dedication to a sport that has the potential to end their existence in literally a heart beat.
On such occaissions as this we ask all fans to keep in perspective the thrill of victory against the ultimate agony of defeat.

Cartwheels at CART HQ?
July 14, 2003
Certainly there is jubilation at the CART corporate offices over the new CBS broadcasting package for ‘04. As long as there is money coming in from the deal to help the old cashflow problem. A big step in healing some of the illness in the series.
Bud on a Bimmer?
July 14, 2003
Can’t wait to see the Budweiser ad on the Williams cars. Especially the traditional Budweiser red colors tailored to BMW blue. Expect more beer sponsorships to follow!

Rossi to test Ferrari?
July 14, 2003
If anyone out there has not seen Valentino Rossi race a motorcycle you don’t know what your missing! If he can bring the same level of daring and focus to F1 he would make the name Michael Schumacher a hazy and distant memory.
He is that good!!
Kyle Petty speaks
July 14, 2003
Read an interview with Kyle Petty about Petty Enterprises.
Some great comments about Kyle/Petty Enterprises in The Sporting News’ Voice of the Fan. I couldn’t agree more with Mike from Wichita and Mark from Minneapolis!
Bernie’s billions
July 14, 2003
Forbes reports that Bernie Ecclestone is selling his London home for a mere $140 million, which is basically chump change for the F1 supremo.
NASCAR gets richer, fans suffer
July 14, 2003
Found a great piece on the astounding growth of NASCAR and what it means to traditional fans watching on TV. I love the points that are made. To all the old school die-hard fans that are up in arms about the nixed Southern 500 and ridiculous number of commercials during NBCs coverage, you are pretty much screwed. NASCAR is setting up to take on a whole new crowd of fans to take your place and then some (should you decide to stop watching).
It’s kind of sad….but not surprising in the least. It’s a tale as old as money. I think they call it “selling out” in the music biz. ;)
Irony of IROC
July 14, 2003
IROC, acronym for “International Race of Champions.” Maybe it’s me, but do you see anyone in the final standings who races anything but ovals? Or is an “International Champion” in anything? Talk about a series that should go away!
