First qualifying at Portland. Maybe the break through for Jimmy? It sure would be nice to see Jimmy get a W.
CART on HDTV?
June 20, 2003
Since CART screwed around with Road America so long over sanctioning fees, buy the time the race was back on the schedule Speed Channel and CBS both had other programming scheduled on the race date. In a typically Pook move, the series is now negotiating with HDNet, an HDTV network owned by none other than Mark Cuban.
For those who are not Dallas Mavericks fans, or members/former members of the streaming media industry, here is more info on Mark Cuban. Here is the HDnet web site.
This would be the first High Definition Television auto race in history in the US. This could actually be good for CART. Imagine that! CART finally doing something good for itself!
Racing in the rain
June 20, 2003
The best of Portland races, at least for me, are run in the rain. Hopefully the actual race will have some precipitation to liven things up.

Buyer beware?
June 17, 2003
With teams that have no sponsors, and existing sponsors paying next to nothing as primary backers, who in their right mind is going to buy the rights to go bankrupt? Selling of the series would be a major coup, reconstituting it as a sport and a viable business allmost an impossibility. My guess as a buyer? Tony George through a front company, just to fold it up and make it go away. You heard it here first folks!
CART looking for buyer
June 16, 2003
Apparently Chris Pook, with the help of Bear Stearns, is shopping for someone to buy the embattled CART series. The obvious choice here is Bernie Ecclestone. My favorite part of this article is when Tom Carter (current CFO of CART) blames the series woes on the economy…
Carpentier conquers Laguna Seca
June 15, 2003
Carpentier held off his team mate Paul Tracy as well as Bruno Junqueira to take a victory at Laguna Seca today. Sad to see that attempt at victory donuts. God I miss Zanardi.

Michel’s car was under weight and did not pass tech inspection after the qualifying session. Patrick Carpentier will inherit the pole position.

My pick for pole and race win, if his car holds together.
