Childress Should Consider Franchitti for 4th Car in 2009

August 9, 2008

Dario Franchitti has not exactly been given a fair shake since coming into NASCAR.  He drove for a team that, while well-established, has never made a lot of noise in the Sprint Cup Series.  It is fairly evident that Chip Ganassi’s heart is still with open wheel racing.

Franchitti also spent a lot of time on the sidelines due to his injuries suffered in that ugly crash at Talladega.  That wreck doomed him to a shaky first season in NASCAR even without the other troubles descending upon the team. Read more

Rain at the Glen, Said and Simo in Jeopardy

August 8, 2008

It is qualifying day at Watkins Glen, and once again Boris Said finds himself in the unenviable position of sitting around and waiting for NASCAR’s call.  Said has been the victim of rained out qualifying shows more often than he probably cares to remember, and the really unfortunate thing is this - he is the only part-time driver in the Cup Series who legitimately has a shot at being competitive, if he can manage to make the race.  Which he always does, provided that it doesn’t rain. NASCAR Sexual Harassment Suit Gets Even Uglier

August 7, 2008

If you’re one of those people who just wants to read about the drivers, the cars, and the next race, this is your warning. I’ll have some of that writing later, but until then, this post will probably have you shaking your head and going, “what do they always have to write about that stuff for?” Well, it’s because it might turn out to be important, that’s why. Double Clutchin’-The Good, The Bad, And The Michael Waltrip From Pocono

August 4, 2008

Gotta love a good cheap shot whenever you can get one in, don’t you?

Anyways, at least we had a race that ended up going the full, allotted number of laps, that did not end under a caution or green-white checkered, and had only one competition caution as opposed to 1000. When those things are taken into consideration, one can look at Pocono as being a successful race. Read more

Post Pocono Ponderings

August 4, 2008

I have to admit, this was a difficult week to think up anything witty, interesting, or even remotely attention-grabbing to write about.  Kind of a plain-vanilla race, in this blogger’s opinion.  Pocono can do that.  For such a unique, interesting track, it really can put on a lackluster show.  In any case, I’ll try and salvage a few thoughts worthy of the reader’s time.

After Indy, There’s No Way Rain Tires Could be Put Off at Montreal

August 3, 2008

The Nationwide Series made history yesterday.  NASCAR stock cars finally ran rain tires that Goodyear has been dragging around for as long as anyone can remember, but never used.

The reason why those tires have never been used until now has never been explained satisfactorily.  Why did Goodyear spend the time and effort developing rain tires if NASCAR was not going to use them?  Why spend the money and effort trucking them to each and every road race if they were somehow still not up to standard? Maybe Randy Moss Might Make It After All

July 30, 2008

I’ll admit it, I used to hate Randy Moss.  There is something about narcissistic pro athletes that really bugs me.  The sense of self entitlement, the smugness, the ego, it all drives me completely nuts.  In the past, Randy Moss was the definition of the classic pro sports athlete. Read more

Double Clutchin’-The Ugly From The Brickyard

July 28, 2008

Sorry that this article was late. I blew two tires out while trying to get to a computer.

I’ll be at the Comedy Barn all week. This race gave me a million jokes, every one of them as bad as that one, and none of which are as bad as the Brickyard 400 turned out to be on Sunday. Good God, that was an abomination of a race yesterday. Probably the best quote that I’ve heard about the race was from Dr. Jerry Punch. Dr. Punch is on 990 am in Knoxville every week and he is always a good guest on the John and Jimmy show, and today he shared a couple of thoughts about how hard it was to do commentary for that race, and just how terrible the race was to watch. I had to laugh with this quote: Read more

This Kyle Busch Stuff Is Getting Out Of Hand

July 26, 2008

197 out of 200 laps.

You read that right.  Kyle Busch led the Kroger 200 for 197 out of its 200 laps.  If he were a baseball player someone would have hit him with a pitch by now.  Right in the melon. That was his sixth Nationwide victory and Toyota’s 15th in 22 Nationwide races.

Guess impounding the Toyotas at Chicagoland and changing the rules in mid-stream isn’t showing results yet, huh?  Read more

Truex To Stay With DEI

July 26, 2008

Well, the house that Dale built is going to have at least one driver next season.

In what I consider to be a mildly surprising move, Martin Truex, Jr. reportedly has agreed to a contract with DEI through 2010. From the four-letter network: Read more
