Schumacher Going For Record

We now re-join our previously scheduled Lucas Oil Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway…Tony Schumacher will be gunning for the fastest pass in NHRA history this weekend. Before the event was postponed by rain after first roung qualifying three weeks ago, Tony has busted out a 4.465-second qualifying run…the fastest in NHRA history. However in order for the record to be official he’ll need to pull off a 4.509-second or better run at some point this weekend. Can he do it? Given the hot streak “The Sarge” has been on lately, you just might think so…

Kenny Bernstein passed “Big Daddy” Don Garlits to take second place on the all-time wins list in Top Fuel taking his 36th win to add to his 30 wins in Funny Car. Tony Pedregon took back the Funny Car points lead this weekend winning that category, and Jeg Coughlin Jr. took the Pro Stock win when Greg Anderson red lighted in the finals…

Doug Kalitta earned the right to call himself the fastest drag racer alive on Saturday with a run of 333.00 in 4.428 seconds. Funny Car rivals Whit Bazemore and John Force both ran 4.725s to put themselves at the front of the field with Bazemore getting the #1 spot because of his faster speed. Tony Schumacher came back from his massive blow over crash on Friday to beat Larry Dixon in the rain delayed finals of the O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals today. The other big news today is the new leader of the Funny Car points standings;Whit Bazemore who took the lead away from Tony Pedregon by winning the class today. Friday, for the third event in a row Tony Schumacher stole the show. He won at Indy a few weeks back and made the fastest run in history last week, but unfortunately Tony got the wrong kind of attention on Friday. The streak was bound to end. He emerged unscathed from a classic massive blow over Friday at the 16th annual O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park.
