Complexities of body design
June 19, 2003
This is a very interesting peice about the work that goes into a new manufacturer running a new body style in NHRA funny car competition. In this case that body in question is the Dodge Stratus…

Minor rule change in Pro Stock
June 19, 2003
A minor rule change was made to the NHRA 2003 rule book. The spill plate (the side plates of the rear wing that keep air from “spilling” off of the spoiler and create more downforece) have been extended slightly to increase down track stability.
Additionally, the NHRA is now making sure drivers at all levels and classes stay strapped into their cars until they leave the racing surface.
Streaming drag racing
June 17, 2003
Having worked for a streaming media company in the past, I think this is the coolest thing going. The Goodguys-VRA West Coast Hot Rod Happenin’ nastolgia drag race will be webcast live on the internet using Apple Quicktime technology. As more and more home users get broadband (cable modems, dsl connections) at home this type of thing will occur more often. Just look at NASCAR.com’s track pass. Companies that specialized in this type of coverage (such as the now defunct Quokka Sports) were way before their time….but the time WILL come. And I, for one, can’t wait!
Also mentioned in this article is a link to “We Did It For Love” nastolgia drag racing/boating organization. Pretty neat.
K&N commercial garners a Telly
June 17, 2003
The now redundantly played K&N Filters commercial featuring the K&N drag racing teams (Ibarra, Johnson, Pedregon) has won a Telly award. The commercial did get my attention when the opera music was blasting over the loud speakers between runs at Englishtown this year.
Business as usual
June 15, 2003
The usual suspects won all three major classes of racing in the NHRA in the Potiac Excitment Nationals this weekend. John Force remained winless so far this season.
“Monster” dragster

Jesse is who I want to be if I get another shot at life. Michael Schumacher, maybe, Jesse for sure.
Bernstein’s new car
June 12, 2003
Maybe I am over estimating the amount of money a team owner and drag racing leged makes….but shouldn’t Brandon be lusting after something a bit higher level then a 350Z? How about 360…as in Modena, Brandon? ;)
Drag Racers Turning Corners?
June 11, 2003
RPM.ESPN is reporting that Ron Capps and Doug Kalitta have been approached by the IROC “braintrust” to drive that series. While it would be VERY cool to see if they could pull it off and be competitive, I would HARDLY call the people behind IROC a “braintrust.”
Super Tuner
June 11, 2003
Since I am fairly new to NHRA I find it amazing that someone could come into an organization and make such a big impact so quickly. In other racing series it takes entire seasons to make such changes….but I guess I am not alone in my astonishment in how quickly Alan Johnson turned the US Army top fuel team around resulting in Tony Schumacher’s win this past weekend.
Hell…when I went to Englishtown this year I never even got to see the car run…now it is winning….
