A Series Title Sponsor At Last
Written by George Katinger · April 1, 2008
One benefit of the recent merger was to generate team sponsorships as well as a series title sponsor. Tick off the box marked “Title sponsor” as accomplished.
The Cocoa Cola Comany NA, has taken on the series sponsorship through 2010. Not a big deal you say, but huge sez I. Especially with all the carping and moaning over the Dallara chassis, not enough parts to go around to keep all the cars on track (sorry Graham!), no ride for P.T. We all know the litany of stories.
It’s great to see a huge positive, especially a company like Coke. Let’s see if we can now get some trickle down sponsorships to the teams. I’m feeling optimistic here!

Good thoughts George
It is indeed amazing how much the atmosphere surrounding the IRL and American open-wheel racing in general has changed over a brief four to six weeks
Just from a practical standpoint it’s amazing–I’ve seen traffic on my Indy Lights site double in that period–the fallout is palpable
Let’s hope some money starts rolling in the direction of these teams, so they can keep the stars of IndyCar where they belong–at Indianapolis and in the world’s fastest race cars
“Cocoa Cola Comany”?
George, is that tin foil hat a little too tight today?
PT’s lack of a ride isn’t related to the lack of equipment, it seems to be more of a lack of commitment, by Mr. Forsythe.
He may take the wad of cash from Phoney George, but he’s not giving up his only asset.
It was the ultimate slap in the face, but it’s unfortunate who suffers (PT and his fans) from this Ediie Jordan style of business.
The sponsorship from Coca Cola is great and what a brilliant move by Coke. They get in on the ground level, so to speak, and leverage the value anyway they want, meaning if things go well, they’ll do more activation and if not, then they back off, with little cost. This is something they’re expanding on from previous relationships and I’m not sure how large or inclusive it is but yes, this is a positive sign.
Oh yeah mo, like you never made a typo? I at the least will leave the misspelled word in place for all to see, or else no one will know what your reference is. Then again, few of us can ever figure out most of your references. :-) :-) :-)
PT’s lack of a drive is directly related to a lack of sponsorship, and the fact that Jerry waited so long to decide not to play in the IRL.
I think it is Forsythe just showing his displeasure for giving in to Phoney George, “you can have my series but I’m not going to give you any help making it work”
If I weren’t so cryptic with my posts George someone might figure out that I’m clueless.
Misspelled “word” in place? I thought some new chocolate comany was was sponsoring Chimpcar.
The name Coca Cola was a derivative coca leave products not cocoa (chocolate) beans.
But I know the tin foil hat is still smoldering from all the sex scandals (not scandles, that kind of sounds like a carribian resort), so your forgiven for the slight typo here and there.
Thank you mo, I can accept a comeuppance when deserved. I ain’t none too perfect at times.
I suspect your Forsythe take is spot on relative to him not wanting to play in Tony’s sand box, especially if he couldn’t get sponsorship other than his own companies.
How long have you seen “Forsythe” on the sides of Tracy’s wagon?
I can’t remember a real sponsor on his ride for quite awhile. So I stick by my tin foil hat theory of Jerry taking his ball home since Tony bought his play ground.
I agree with you George. Coca Cola signing on is BIG. Coke is probably the most world wide known product name and when you stick it up there next to IRL people are going to look. I also think given enough time, a sponsor will jump on the PT wagon to get him into a ride. Now that we’re united we need ALL the sponsors and fan attention we can get to grow. Paul Tracy is a name well known by both Champ Car and IRL fans. Tony George should be doing anything possible to pull in and keep all big name drivers.
Right on Texracer! Forsythe was *my team* in CCWS. I can’t help but think WWPTD at St. Pete’s. Here’s to hoping for next year - yep that’s how long I think it’s going to take - UNLESS the Rahals, Wilsons, and Powers of the world show well enough this year to make PT a moot point. That could very well happen. I mean why have to kiss old CC driver boodie when your needs are met by the young’uns? But oh well for now - we will just have to see how it shakes out. And Coke beats Pepsi hands down. Way to Go Chindy!
