Bourdais Takes San Jose Provisional Pole With Blistering Final Lap

Written by Scott Keller · July 27, 2007

Ho hum, another provisional pole for Sebastian Bourdais.

Justin Wilson again gets nipped by Bourdais in the final moments. Man, Justin has to be so happy send Sebastian Bourdais off to F1 purgatory at Scuderia Toro Rosso.

Provisional Qualifying Notes
———————————

* Bruno Junqueira qualified fourth in provisional qualifying! It’s true, Dale Coyne still has the ugliest race cars on the grid (Kat’s car looks like a turd with yellow racing stripes), but at least they aren’t the slowest any more. Way to go, Bruno.

* Paul Tracy qualified exactly one spot ahead of Jan Heylen. It sounds worse than it really is, becase Jan qualified 12th, which is quite respectable considering that he hasn’t been a full time driver this year, and has no teammate. Even more impressive is that Jan out qualified Graham Rahal in an NHL DP01 with trick dampers on a bumpy surface.

* The top 9 are all within .5 seconds of each other. Sure, if you qualifying 10th, you are in the bottom half of the field, but the difference between 3rd and 10th is literally a blink.

* Doornbos still hasn’t shown to be much of a qualifier. He was sixth fastest today, but needs to start showing in the top 5 be up front for the street parades.
