Breakout Year For PKV?
Written by Scott Keller · February 8, 2005
Clearly there is excitement building at PKV Racing for the upcoming 2005 season. The team will field two former Champ Car champions with the addition of Cristiano da Matta to the team. Not only that, but Jim McGee is managing the team. Could this be the “breakout year” for PKV?
Their recent test at Sebring went very well. Cristiano only got 30 laps in the car, because he was racing in the 24 Hours of Daytona on Saturday, but teammate Vasser got a lot of seat time. Here’s the wrap-up on PKV’s weekend from Motorsport.com.
I think PKV has gained a tremendous amount of moment going into 2005. They should be the team to step up along with Newman/Haas and Forsythe this year. Speaking of Forsythe, Alex Figge tested with them recently as well. SpeedTV.com has a look at Silly Season so far in 2005. I like the looks of all the activity in testing and team preparation for the upcoming season. It looks like Champ Car will take another step toward regaining prominence in American open-wheel racing.
Note: Also testing at Sebring were 2004 Jordan F1 driver Timo Glock in a Rocketsports car, while former Indy Lights driver Matt Halliday and 2004 Nissan World Series competitor Bruce Jouanny ran laps for Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing.
