2002 Champ Car World Series Champion Cristiano da Matta remained in intensive care Thursday after surgery to remove a ruptured blood vessel in his head. The injury was sustained in a testing crash at Elkhart Lake in Wisconsin. The wreck was caused when da Matta struck, of all things, a deer while at speed.

So what happened to the deer???????????
I’m hungry and some nice venison would go well right about now!
It is an unfortunate accident, and I wish Cristiano the best. Its hard enought to avoid a deer on public roads, much less at speed between 5 and 6. AJ
Hope he’s alright, if his injury required brain surgery it must be serious.
so dangerous!
My dad use to race sports cars there and SCCA would stop all on track activity when a deer was even on the property. Its really sad that this happened. Mabye Champ car should stop all on track activity when there is a deer on the property especially near a blind corner like 6 after you come up fiermens hill. your do like almost 70 right there. Its really unfortunate
