Denver Event Coming Together

Written by George Katinger · March 22, 2004

Just what OWRS needs, a little positive news. Maybe I should follow the lead of my Commander-in-Chief here at FM, and have blind faith in the OWRS’ ability to pull this off. The only person unhappy over the news will be the Denver area columnist Woody Paige. He was Soooo pleased with last years race!

crash.net: OWRS acquires Denver rights.

With all the cash they are throwing into the TV package and guarantees for the circuits, I can’t believe OWRS ever intended to fund teams without sponsorships. Even billionaire business people (especially them) know when to cut their losses. I hope and pray that they are committed to spend what it takes to get the 18 car fields they need. Even if they do, will we see 6-8 cars running without sponsors on the machines? THAT would be a psychological shot they don’t need either. Read what Paul Gentilozzi has to say.

“The people saying that we’re not going to be around are the ones trying to put us out of business,” Gentilozzi said, “We’ve put our money where our mouths are, and this is an example.”

No kidding Paul, they’re also the ones buying your teams and sponsors right out from under your tarmac! Like Pat Patrick going to the IRL with Al Unser Jr. starting in May at, you guessed it, the Indy 500.
