Tony Cotman Out As Champ Car Race Director

Written by Scott Keller · February 2, 2006

The word is that Gerry Forsythe wants someone with more experience.

Robin miller at SPEEDTV.com reports today that Tony Cotman is on the outs as Race Director of Champ Car. Many, including myself, think that Champ Car is making a bad call on this. After many years of “iffy” race officiating, the 2006 season was officiated quite well. The word is that Cotman has “too much on his plate”, and they want someone who has more experience.

As the article accurately points out, it’s a thankless job that no one has done realy well. Until Cotman last year. Forsythe should worry about who will replace Tracy when he is full time racing in the fender league and let Cotman do his job. Even Forsythe said they won’t pull the trigger unless they can find a “better” replacement.

If, indeed, Cotman has been relieved of his duties, it will be Champ Car’s loss.

Got something to say?
