Tracy to Try Sedans?

Written by Josh Katinger · August 19, 2004

There are still rumors circulating connecting reigning Champ Car series Champion Paul Tracy to NASCAR, specifically Richard Childress Racing. It is no secret that Robby Gordon is shopping for a new ride next year and it was also rumored that, due to his Champ Car team’s budgetary issues, Paul might make a mid-season jump to RCR’s #30 car, but that has since been filled by Jeff Burton.

Crash.net: Tracy to consider NASCAR in 2005?

While having the often hot-tempered Tracy mixing it up on track with the likes of Tony Stewart would be incredibly entertaining, I’m not sure that Paul would be motivated to join the NASCAR ranks. Comments in an interview with Paul seem to back that up…

Paul Tracy:

“It interests me, driving sports prototype cars, I would like to do LeMans, just for the experience. So there are lots of things I’d like to try to do. It’s not just NASCAR. Technically, NASCAR is not that interesting to me.”

If the NASCAR experiences of Paul’s current and former co-workers Jimmy Vasser and Christian Fittipladi are any judge of what Paul’s run at the series would be like, I’d say he should head for sports cars. Besides, NASCAR used to be aged-driver-friendly, but its all about the “Young Guns” nowadays.

Id love to see this move for the following reasons:

    1) His talent is being wasted driving in CART….CART isnt what it used to be

    2) CART told Tracy that he couldnt take part in the previous Nascar road race because it would “confuse the racing fans as to if he was leaving the series”. Like Tracy is their indentured servent or something.

    3) He has a temper that would fit in with the crowd.

The Chief Stewards effort to change his behavior might have the effect of changeing his venues.

Got something to say?
