Racing School Can Cost You
Written by Josh Katinger · August 29, 2004
I’ve often wanted to go to a high priced racing school such as Skip Barber or Russell. Or even perhaps attend one the of the NASCAR “Experience” schools that let you rip around an oval in a highly restricted race car. I mean, it can’t hurt right? It must be totally safe if they let any “Joe Shmo” get behind the wheel. Plus you never hear about any crashing in a racing school…until now anyways.
AL.com: Bruno’s executive dies of race school injuries
AccessNorthGA.com: Georgia man dies of injuries at Talladega track
Besides being an article that relates to auto racing in some way, this article also caught my eye because in my “day job” Bruno’s is a client of ours. Apparently the company was having a corporate outing at the racing school.
According to this story…
Davis had just completed a six-lap, high-speed tour around the track as part of a Bruno’s Supermarkets Incorporated employees corporate outing when something went wrong.
Davis had taken the checkered flag at the start/finish line and begun the shut-down procedure to bring the car to the pits when it veered into the outside wall down the track’s long backstretch.
A veteran driving-school employee whom Bussey declined to identify was treated for minor injuries.
It is pretty amazing to me that something like this can happen to the average racing school student. However I guess driving anything on the high banks of Talladega is risky business. Just a reminder to all of you would be racing school attendees…it can cost you a lot more than just the $2,000 or whatever they are charging!
In a sick twist of irony, Tony Davis was Bruno’s “Loss Prevention Manager.”
