Ryan Smith to Compete with PRA Racing Association
Ryan Smith, winner of the 2006 Northeast and Florida USAC Ford Focus Midget crowns, plans to run the entire PRA Racing Association schedule.
Coming off a stellar 2006 season, capped by a repeat win in the Gamblers’ Classic in the Atlantic City to start the 2007 racing season.
“I can’t wait for the 2007 season to begin,” said Smith.
“My family has once again stepped up to the plate and we will be competing in the PRA Racing Association. I know that it is going to be a new challenge for our team but we are hoping to be competitive right from the start. In March, I will be going to the Finish Line Racing School and I am looking forward to working with Mike Loescher. His experience and training will help me prepare for the 2007 season.
“The new car is already under the care of our team, being prepared for the new year and being painted in the colors of our S&S Speedway team,” he added.
Smith’s plans for the new year also include racing a 600 micro sprint car, some dirt modified races and running week to week in slingshot races, just to keep in practice between the PRA events. The nine-race PRA schedule opens on April 9 at Adel, Georgia’s South Georgia Motorsports Park and closes on December 8 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, FL. In between, the tour goes to O’Reilly Raceway Park Indianapolis, Berlin Raceway and Oswego Raceway, among other tracks.
The young driver receives training in the skills needed outside the car from the Future Stars in Racing Academy; learning how to conduct sponsor presentations, media interviews, how to comport himself on and off the track and even how to conduct interviews as the interviewer rather than the interviewee.
Future Stars in Racing is the exclusive driver development parter with ASA Late Model Series and WKA, and provides members with practical experiences in dealing with sponsors, the public, media, other drivers and promoters. Founded by Rolfe Schnur, the Academy features a stellar board of advisors with decades of experience in all aspects of motorsport.
