Second Annual Open Wheel Racing Schedule

Written by Douglas Brown · February 15, 2008

Who’s racing this weekend? What series? What channel? What time?

Australia GP, the F1 opener is sometime in . . . March?
When does Indy Racing Leagues season start?
What about Champ Car?
Moto GP opening round is in how many weeks? Oh wait, we don’t do motorcycles here. Hey, why not?

As we head into open wheel racing season, it’s time to set your Sunday afternoon schedule, block off the correct Saturday nights and get ready for racing!

To help you plan, ease the tension and insure you see each and every lap, we gathered all the info in one place and proudly present the Second Annual Fastmachines Open Wheel Racing Schedule.

Why no Nascar you ask? Easy . . . except for Easter Sunday (3/23) they run every week between now and Thanksgiving. If they’re not showing it on Fox, it’s probably on TNT. Besides, I’m the open wheel guy, remember.

* Answers:
F1 - March 16, Albert Park
IRL - March 29. Homestead
CHP - April 20, Long Beach
MotoGP - March 9, Qatar

hey doug, you forgot to include the new series….chumpIRLcar.
    When does that series start?

Great idea mo, but how about calling it “ChirlCar”? With churls running both series it sounds too good a name to pass over.

I doubt TG would let chump car put it intials in front of irl’s. That’s what the hold up is in the merger I’m sure.

Then again it could be the contracts chump car has with all of the tracks around the world, which lends credence to the bankruptcy rumours. That way no assets (do they have any) will be lost in the transition.

Thanks for the calender, as I’m sure we’ll be checking when real racing is available. Although there was no mention of drag racing, I’ll forgive you. LOL.

I’m still amazed ChampCar feels obliged to start the season after everyone else is well into their’s. Seriously, on naming the new as yet to merge league - I believe it will be called the Championship IndyCar Racing League - CIRL.

or they could call it the Indycar Detuned Irritating Overhyped Tonygeorge series.

    The IDIOT series.

Nice one, Mo. I was thinking that too - Tony will never let HIS name go. I’d bet part of the deal is keeping the IRL nameplate on there. Or, as you suggest, somehow get his name into it.

“It ain’t over ’til it’s over… But the Champ Car World Series is about to become a non-entity according to a report by Speedtv.com’s Robin Miller.

The story indicates that many of the existing Champ Car team owners have confirmed they have been told they should cease work on their DP01 Champ Cars, and that they would be receiving Dallara IndyCar chassis later this week.”

Looks like we need a new schedule Doug.
