Rubens Barrichello locked in second place in the drivers championship today by winning the Inaugural Chinese Grand Prix at the brand new Shanghai International Circuit. Jenson Button extended BAR’s lead over Renault for second in the constructors championship by coming in second. McLaren’s Kimi Raikkonen finished in third. This was only the second race the Finn has managed to complete in five races showing that when he has the car to do well…he can.

Shanghai was “Spin City” for world champion Michael Schumacher as he spun out in qualifying, putting him second to last on the grid - spun out in practice which saw him start from the pit lane - and finally finished in 12th place after spinning and puncturing a tire as he tried to work up through the field - a truly unfamiliar showing from the greatest F1 driver ever. Apparently the new Shanghai circuit just doesn’t agree with the hero.
The “Comeback Kids” Jacques Villeneuve and Ralf Schumacher has similarly dismal races as Villeneuve finishing out of the points in 11th place and Ralf had an altercation with David Coulthard and retired from the race.
So, yet another component of the season (”The Race To Be Second Best”) is over as second place in the driver’s championship is clinched and second in constructors is nearly locked as well. I hope the “Comeback Kids” show more promise in the next two events as Peter Sauber and the folks at Toyota are probably regretting their decisions more than Juan Montoya at this point.
