Can’t Race Much…

…but I still can run my mouth! Yes, that wounded F1 warrior Ralf Schumacher is determined to stay out of the Williams cockpit for the remainder of the season.

news.bbc.co.uk: Ralf talks up Toyota hopes

No, surely you’re misunderstanding the lad! He says he wants in the car for the Hungarian GP! While the chances are slim to none he will get medical clearance, the way for Ralf to guarantee he won’t get a ride is to chat up his potential at Toyota next year. Mr. Williams just loves the idea of winning races with a driver outward bound to another team at the end of the season. The only reason Montoya gets any support at all is Frank has no choice. Montoya at least was somewhat circumspect with his comments about McLaren early in the year, not that he had much to hope for. Now Juan can be as outspoken as he wants, as Williams are in a box, are they not? What are they to do, sit Juan and field Pizzonia and Gene? I think not!

But this is about Boy Blunder, Ralf. I believe he is deliberately trying to raise the Williams’ ire in the hopes of staying out of the cockpit for the rest of the year. Why? If he gets in the seat and delivers no scintillating race results, Toyota would be justified in re-thinking their decision, and applying all manner of legal force to void his deal and look elsewhere. I further believe that Ralf may be damaged goods and will have to prove in the car and on the track he still has the mettle for the fast and dangerous world of F1.
