F1 Commission Appointments Exclude McLaren…

…and five other teams. But if you’re Ron Dennis, who cares about the other five, it’s about him!

Well Ron, what did you expect? Your very own throne at the right hand of God? (That would be Max Mosley, for the new reader!) With all of the criticism, bluster, and outright contrary attitudes you have thrown at Mad Max, did you expect to be welcomed with open arms? Now that you know better, will you be less abrasive and outspoken? More cooperative and agreeable? I don’t think so.

But with one less concern hanging over your head, maybe you’ll get back to the principal business of Team McLaren-Mercedes. Winning races. Remember that concept, fielding a competitive car and fighting for driver and team world championships? There is another reason you need to focus on the racing. Fernando Alonso. Again, remember how you so thoroughly enjoyed crowing about his accquisition at the end of last year? Unless you show some winning form, and soon, I’ll wager Fernando is taking a crash course called “Voiding Contract Commitments 101″ as written by the resident expert of F1 contract breaking, Jenson Button.

And why not? One huge risk in early contract commitments is the teams unknown future performance. When Fernando elected to jump ship, all the signs were favorable. Renault was rumored to be leaving the sport; McLaren just finished the 2005 season losing both titles by mere whiskers; and the team history indicated that McLaren would handle the transition to the 2.4 liter engined regulations very well indeed.

Ah, the things that can go wrong in less than a year. McLaren has a 2006 chassis that under performs, engines that are under powered, and an inability to maximize grip with the best tire available, Michelin. If you were Alonso, would not your confidence be shaken? The difference between Button and Alonso is maturity and (hopefully) ethics. I don’t think he would try and terminate his deal, but in this day and age, and with Renault’s outspoken commitment to pour money into their winning team, would you blame him if he tried?

Get your act together Ron, the future is not all that bright!

Remember a few years back when Max launched an attack on RD with words to the effect that, F1 does not belong to Ron Dennis it belongs to the FIA or rather the 200 odd member countries that make up it’s charter, & that he is permitted an entry to compete under it’s rules. He went on further to say that as Ron was constantly wishing to change F1 to his liking perhaps he should start his own series with it’s own rules & umpires.

On this latest swipe from Max I give 10 out of 10 for creativity to Mr Mosley, I mean all of the teams could have been granted a place on the commission but two missed out on the grounds of nationality I.e.. Williams is English so no room for Ron, or Honda is Japanese so Toyota can miss out too, I LOVE IT.Seriously is Red Bull really Austrian? The owner is Austrian & the team is based in England. Is Toyota really Japanese? The owners are but the team is based in Germany. Which brings me to another point, McLaren is 60% owned by Mercedes & they definitely are German, oops sorry Ron, BMW are German so you miss out again. But hang on aren’t BMW Sauber based in Switzland?

Sucked in Ron! Max the lawyer dreamt this one up to stick it in you good & proper & now it’s time to suffer. While you’re at it, cut out the crap about being the second oldest team in F1, you bought McLaren off Teddy Mayer in 1980 & Frank Williams was there before you were, so suck it up!

Max clearly had Ron in his sights when he conjured this one nationality commission entry BS & now it’s signed sealed & delivered. The only question is, what did Toyota do to draw the short straw in the land from the rising sun? Honda must be in Max’s good books methinks.

Well done Max another Night of the Long Knives, this time by stealth, your father would be proud………..& Ron’s sour puss face & moaning will brighten your day.

I am really surprised that the ruling commission has not adopted the rules set by the International Ski Federation: You take the first 5 finishers from the last event, and rotate them on the grid. Then the next five, etc… Lets see who is the best driver now, and forget about these senseless qualifying pole events.

Not sure what to think of this latest development. I’m torn between thinking Max is a joke and Ron had it coming to him…. or both.

Nice article, by the way, keep up the great pieces, very entertaining.

Got something to say?
