Ferrari Test Times: Omen Of Despair?
Written by George Katinger · January 29, 2005
It’s the weekend, time for most of us to kick back and relax. Someone please tell that to Michael Schumacher and team Ferrari.
uk.sports.yahoo.com: Barcelona: three Ferrari V10s on the track
Ferrari and Ferrari Lite (Sauber) continued work at Catalunya evolving their 2005 entries. While the gap between the Sauber and Ferrari 2005 cars was considerable (not surprising) the small interval between the Scarlet Harlots ‘04 and ‘05 cars is frightening. With a gap of slightly more then 2 tenths between them, the ‘05 Ferrari will be a contender out of the box starting in Australia.
Why? The regulation changes this year were expected to reduce times between last years cars and this years designs by at least one second and up to three seconds per lap. Apparently no one has told Ferrari. Hopefully these are misleading test times, as most pre-season results turn out to be. Let’s also hope the rest of the paddock is paying attention and working just as hard as the boys from Maranello.

From what I have read Ferrari only has the “M” version on the track. Nothing more than a aero-improved ‘04 tub.
While the current test times probably are misleading once the full on ‘05 version hits the track I expect the gap to remain at ‘04 levels.
The F2004M is last years car with aero upgrades to comply with this years regs. It should be just as “slow” as the rest of the grids ‘05 cars. Hence my concern when they are a mere 2 tenths slower then last years car. If the “real” F2005 is faster then the interim car we are all in for another long season.
Just like last year Ferrari did not show the performance potential of the new cars untill they appeared on the track. Then it was lights out.
